According to a poll run by a The Guardian and The Observer newspapers in 2003 Hull has made it into the top twenty of the United Kingdom's leading tourist locations. Hull was placed as the fifteenth leading tourist attraction, beating Leeds, Liverpool and Cambridge. Cityimage marketing director John Till has said that visiting Hull changes people's perceptions and that places such as the £40m submarium The Deep which has received over a million visitors are pulling in tourists who then go on to visit other attraction like Hull's museums and the Marina. York received sixth place and the number one spot went to Edinburgh.
